When We Receive A Letter From A Prisoner

From time to time the firm receives letters from inmates in both state and federal facilities.  As a general rule they are not viable cases, but from time to time they may be valid so an attorney should review every letter.

If the case is not one which the firm is willing to take the following steps should be done.

  1. The letter along with the envelope should be scanned into the potential Dropbox file.
  2. the letter should be given to an attorney.
  3. once the attorney reviews and it is deemed to be a not-viable case the following letter should be sent.

Dear Mr @@.

Thank you for your letter, it seems like you have a considerably complex case that an post-conviction appellate lawyer may be able to help you with.  Unfortunately, at this time we focus primarily on the trial side of the case.  I would urge you to contact the Minestrone State Bar Association or your public defender to see if they have the resources to help you.

I do appreciate the time it took to draft this letter and have enclosed it back for your file.

I wish you the best of luck in the future.
