How/When to Introduce Temporary Relief to Clients (Temp Relief SOP)
Scope:
- Any new dissolution
- Any custody case
Timing:
- Trigger event: we serve or receive A & CP
- Paralegal sets an initial attorney call w/ client within 1 week of serving or receiving A & CP. Call needs to be on the calendar for 1 hour. Include in calendar entry the following discussion topics:
- Filing/not filing initial pleadings
- Mediation
- Informal/Formal Discovery
- Experts
- Temp relief specifics:
- It’s an option for any issue
- What requests can be made
- How long it takes
- Discuss how much it costs
- The fact that it can be done at any time, not necessarily right now
- Go over pros and cons
- Attorney adds notes to MyCase clearly stating the client’s position on temp relief and lets para know that is available for review.
- If the client is interested either now or in the future:
- Share temp relief doc with client (we already have it): FAM – Temp Relief Info for Clients (rev 10.24.25).docx
- Para sends message explaining that client should review
